1. From the France series
(BG) 4 места, които трябва да видите във Франция
My first trip to a foreign country was in France. I’ve been studying at French language school for five years which was the other reason why I felt so special about everything French. Looking back to these days, I realize how many things have changed. At the end of the 90s and at the beginning of the new Millenium, Bulgaria was a country very different from now. The opportunities to travel weren’t so many comparing them with nowadays.
I grew up with the stories which my father told me about his travels around the world. When from the school came the proposal to travel around France and to take part in exchange programs my family was total in. I was only 15 years old and these trips gave me such a new perspective on life. Since then I have never stopped dreaming about traveling the world and opening my mind.
That’s why I would like to share with you the four places which left a mark on my mind. In the list below you will not see Paris or some of the big French cities. I am sure that some of them are not on any popular travel list. If you are adventurous enough you will give them a try and feel their own charm.
1.Orthez
When I’ve heard about Orthez for the first time it sounds like the most wonderful place in the world. There is something mystical in its name, don’t you think? I have such beautiful memories walking around the historical sites… For those of you interested to learn something more about the history and the traditions of the French Provinces, Orthez is a must. The town is located in South-West France within the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The history of Orthez is following back in the 12th century when it’s the capital of the Béarn. The Gave de Pau river is crossing the town splitting a long list of churches, cathedrals, and castles from medieval times. If you are hungry do not miss to try the French ham “jambon” prepared by a special recipe for which the town is also known.
2.Bar-sur-Seine
Located in the Champagne-Ardenne region and within the department Aube only two hours away from Paris, Bar-sur-Seine pleasantly surprised me. Devastated by England in the 13th century and having some hard times during the Religious wars this town still has stories to tell with its large number of artifacts. How can we be in France and still not talking about wine? Well, I am not gonna let you down, friends. This region is famous for its champagne wine so the bubble magic and beautiful nature will restore every cell in your body.
3.Carcassonne
Carcassonne is like a fairytale because of its rich history. So many stories to tell, 52 towers to see … and a pig carcass stuffed with grain and catapulted over the wall at the enemy… You should not miss that 🙂 Located in a beautiful French region Occitanie, Carcassonne has a strategic location between the Meditarian sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Dated back to the 3 500 BC it plays an important role during the different historical periods. It is one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites but you will see that it is way more than a touristic attraction.
4.Biarritz
The first thing I was told for Biarritz was that it was Napoleon Bonapart’s favorite place at the seaside and I understood why it was. Biarritz is perfectly located on the Atlantic coast in the Basque region. For sure you must include it on your bucket list no matter if you go there for a short visit or for a long summer vacation. The place attracted me with its incredible history, amazing blue water, beaches, and its own atmosphere. I am planning to return there one day.
Have you ever visited some of the mentioned places? Share your thoughts in the comment section below. I will be happy to hear from you.
